Il 5 Aprile 1994 muore Kurt Cobain, cantante, chitarrista e leader dei #Nirvana
Nato il 20 Febbraio 1967 a Aberdeen, si uccide all’apice del suo successo a soli ventisette anni presso la sua abitazione di Seattle con un colpo di arma da fuoco.
Le sue canzoni hanno rappresentato un grande mutamento nel panorama della musica anni 90 parlando di tormenti esistenziali, alienazione, ribellione ma anche di una società contraddittoria e ostile.
Smells like teen spirit si può considerare l’inno della Generazione X.
Un importante tributo alla poetica di Kurt Cobain è il wall painting dello street artist OPIEMME che si trova sulla facciata dell’ex casello idraulico a Follonica.
L’opera è stata realizzata nel 2016 in occasione della mostra in Pinacoteca Civica di Follonica dell’ artista che ha creato anche l’insegna del nostro museo.
Il grande cuore tipografico realizzato a spray e stencil recita le rime iniziali di Heart shaped box, primo singolo dell’album in Utero del 1993. In questo brano Kurt Cobain allude tramite un frenetico flusso di coscienze e immagini allegoriche all’amore totalizzante nei confronti di Courtney Love.
Il titolo fa infatti riferimento alla scatola di legno a forma di cuore che la moglie regalò al leader dei Nirvana durante il loro primo incontro.

His songs represent a great change in the history of music during the 90th dealing with rebellion, existential torments, estrangement but also about a contradictory and hostile society Smells like teen spirit became the anthem for the X Generation.
The wall painting , realized by Opiemme on the façade of Ex Casello Idraulico is an important tribute to Kurt Cobain’s poetry situated in Follonica. It was created in 2016 in occasion of the exhibition of the artist, that has also created our museum sign-
The big typographical heart made by spray and stencil recites the first lines of Heartshaped box from the album in Utero.
In this song Kurt Cobain alludes to all – embracing love with Courtney Love through the use of stream of consciousness and allegories.
The title is referred to the heart shaped box made in wood that Courtney Love offered to Kurt Cobain on their first date.
